Financial Controller

What is expected of you?

  • Lead month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, and prepare financial statements, management reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for senior management
  • Monitor key financial metrics (cash flow, debt ratios, WIP) to support business decisions and collaborate with the COO to review operational KPIs and financial performance
  • Develop the company’s annual budget, long-term financial projections, and perform variance analysis, comparing actual results to budgets and forecasts
  • Provide actionable recommendations to optimize financial performance, achieve business goals, and oversee cost allocation across projects and services to ensure profitability
  • Work closely with project managers to track project budgets, ensure cost control, and analyze operational costs to improve efficiency and reduce expenses
  • Manage the invoicing process, oversee accounts receivable and payable functions, ensure timely collection of payments, and maintain healthy cash flow through effective credit management
  • Oversee cash flow forecasting and manage banking relationships to ensure financial stability
  • Ensure compliance with local tax laws, financial regulations, and company policies, while implementing and maintaining robust internal financial controls to minimize risk
  • Drive process improvements and support the development of financial systems in collaboration with the COO
  • Manage, mentor, and develop the finance team to achieve high performance and foster professional growth
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration to streamline financial processes, enhance overall efficiency, and provide commercial support for tenders and contracts, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance

 

What are you expected to bring?

  • Qualified Accountant with a warrant or eligibility to practice in Malta
  • Proven experience in a similar role
  • Strong knowledge of Maltese Company Law and Tax Regulations
  • Experience in managing Work-in-Progress (WIP) valuation and project costing
  • Fluent in English and Maltese (written and spoken)
  • Ability to articulate complex financial information clearly and effectively to both financial and non-financial stakeholders 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to lead, motivate, and mentor finance teams
  • Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills 
  • Expertise in ERP systems, financial reporting tools, advanced Excel functions, and emerging financial technologies
  • In-depth understanding of accounting standards, tax regulations, financial compliance requirements, and best practices
