Compliance Officer and MLRO

We're currently on the lookout for a Compliance Officer and MLRO to join the team of a prominent audit and accounting firm serving both local and international clients. What is expected of you?

  • Oversee and enhance the company’s AML/CTF framework in line with Maltese and EU regulations.
  • Monitor transactions, investigate suspicious activity, and file SARs with the FIAU as needed.
  • Manage sanctions screening, PEP checks, and EDD for high-risk clients.
  • Ensure effective implementation of KYC and CDD processes company-wide.
  • Maintain accurate AML records to ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Stay updated on AML laws, FATF recommendations, and FIAU guidelines.
  • Deliver AML training to staff to promote a culture of compliance.
  • Act as the appointed Compliance Officer and main liaison with the MFSA.
  • Work with the Executive Director and Group Compliance Team to implement compliance monitoring.
  • Advise on regulatory changes, policies, and governance to ensure MFSA compliance.
  • Review and update internal policies and controls regularly.
  • Conduct internal audits to identify and address compliance gaps.
  • Prepare compliance reports for management and regulators.
  • Support staff training on regulatory duties, data protection, and ethical practices.

 

What are you expected to bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business, or a related discipline.
  • At least 4 years of experience in regulatory compliance, AML/CFT, or financial services.
  • Previous experience as an MLRO, Compliance Officer, or in a senior compliance role.
  • Solid knowledge of AML laws, MFSA regulations, FIAU guidelines, and EU financial crime directives.
  • Proficient with AML reporting platforms and transaction monitoring tools.
  • Skilled in managing regulatory interactions, submissions, and compliance assessments.
  • MFSA PQ’d as a Compliance Officer or eligible to obtain PQ status is considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and sound judgment in risk-based decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to train staff and advise senior leadership.
